This week students in the north group will participate in four 45 minutes sessions of Human Growth and Development and next week students in the south group will participate. Our district's RN, Ms. Gabor, Mr. Newman and either Mrs. Miller or Mrs. O'Malley will facilitate each session. You received this notification just after student led conferences, last month. We realize that each of our students will bring a set of beliefs and knowledge around the topics and encourage you to follow up each day. Here are the overarching topics for each session:
Session #1 - Consent, Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation; Session #2 - Puberty, Health and Hygiene and Self-Esteem; Session #3 - Anatomy; Session #4 - Sex, Cell Division and Pregnancy.
As a class this past week we discussed expectations and provided our students with the opportunity to ask questions. They came up with a thoughtful list of expectations for themselves. Additionally, each group asked why the sessions couldn't be separated, boys and girls. Here's the information we shared with them and the expectations they identified as necessary to ensure the environment everyone will need to do their best.
We now have now entered the final sprint of the school year. Our sixth graders will begin planning for their Passage later this month. Your student's day and time has been scheduled. Click here to see which day and what time they will present their Passage.
Ms. Church worked with our PTO to provide a series of African Dance workshops, including a dance teacher and drummer, for our students that continues with session #2 this Thursday. This opportunity will culminate with an after school dance class and social for all 5th and 6th graders on May 1st (3:35-4:35 pm).
Here is MAC 3's remaining Forward testing schedule:
4/14, Maths Session 1, 8:45-9:45 (both 5th and 6th grades)
4/15 Maths Session 2, 8:45-9:45 (6th grade only)
4/16, Maths Session 2 (5th) 3 (6th), 8:45-9:45 (both 5th and 6th grades)
Our PTO has organized a Scholastic Book Fair that will run from May 5th - 7th. MAC 3 students will visit as a class on Tuesday, May 5th. You can look for the Book Fair flyer that will be sent home next week. Here is the link to the website where you can create an eWallet for your student, if you'd like. The MAC 3 eWallet is here, if you'd like to contribute towards new books for our classroom library. Thank you!

Orchestra and BandYour student has a printed lesson schedule for the next few months. Lesson schedules for Band can be found on the Band Lesson page. Lesson schedules for Orchestra can be found on the Orchestra Lesson Schedule page.
Students will have their lesson on the same day each week but the time will shift to ensure they don't miss the same 30 minutes each week. Please help your student remember to bring their instrument and music on their lesson day. For many, it's an upsetting way to start their day when they realize they forgot their instrument and/or music. Thank you in advance! Homework and the content pagePlease see our Content Page for specific updates related to students' learning.

Lake Bluff ExpectationsThis slide deck was created by Ms. French (principal) and Ms. Janzen (dean). We will share it with our students so they know what's expected and can hold themselves and others responsible for their actions.
Our students have recess first (11:15-11:40), followed by lunch (11:40-12:00). Scooters, bikes, and skateboards must be walked on school grounds before and after school. (see slide 8) Smart watches (like phones) must be powered off and stored in backpacks all day. (see slide 9) District Resources |
You can access the Beagle Bulletin here - through the Shorewood School District/Lake Bluff School home page.
Our two room parents are: Sarah B. (Teagan's mom), Lindsey M. (Emilia's mom), and Kathleen D. (Becca's mom). Thank you to them both for linking the efforts of our families and PTO with us!
If you'd like to chaperone a field trip or plan to be in our school during the school day, you MUST fill out the school district's volunteer/background check form. You can access that here.
School lunch is available or families can choose to send their child to school with a lunch from home. Here is the February menu. Additionally, here is information about accessing Free or Reduced meals for your student/s.
Your student has the benefit of coming into contact with many different, deeply committed and caring adults throughout their week. These adults include: Lauren Courter (Art), Dominic Newman (PE), Elizabeth Russell (Library Media Specialist), Liisa Church (General Music), Kim Hildebrand (Spanish), Kate Zachar (Special Education), Catherine Harrison (Student Support Specialist), Nikki Janzen (Dean of Students) and if your student plays a string instrument Julie Nolan (Orchestra) or if your student plays a band instrument Katherine Myszewski.
